Simple Bell Noisemakers for New Year’s Eve

With the new year drawing near, I thought I should make some fun (but really pretty) homemade noisemakers to help ring in the new decade. This simple project takes minutes to assemble and only needs a few things! See how I made these pretty and chic noisemakers so you can make one – or 10!

Supplies needed to make your own homemade noisemakers:

Step 1. Remove the top part of your ball ornament by pulling it – it comes off easily!

Step 2. Fill your ball with sequins. I used two packages per noisemaker. Sequins muffle the sound of the bells clinking together so you don’t want to use too much.

Step 3. Next, add your bells in. Since my bells were about the size of the opening, I pushed them one by one in – but you can definitely get smaller bells to add inside. I used 16 bells per noisemaker and they make a decent amount of sound.

Step 4. Cut your dowel rod in half with a hacksaw, miter box or even a miter saw if you have one. Sand the edges.

Step 5. Since the dowel rod is the same size as the opening of the ball, you want to taper one side so it is able to go in the opening of the ball. I sanded it by holding the sandpaper in the palm of my hand and sandwiching the dowel rod in it and turned it clockwise and counter-clockwise until I achieved the taper that I wanted. Make sure to test fit the dowel every now and then to ensure a snug fit.

Step 6. To secure, apply hot glue to the tapered end of the dowel rod and insert into the opening of the filled ball ornament.

Step 7. Finally, wrap the connection with a ribbon and tie a bow to create a simple but cute adornment – and you are done with your homemade noisemakers!

I am loving how simple and chic these noisemakers look, and I think they’re perfect favors for your New Year’s Eve party! You can definitely fill them with different colored sequins for a cleaner look – or even confetti! What colors would YOU use for your noisemakers?
